The girl with kaleidoscope eyes
John Lennon wrote the now-famous lyrics in playful response to a drawing made by his son Julian, who had a youthful crush on the girl whose family owned an antique shop in Weybridge, Surrey, England.
Lucy Richardson grew up to be a successful motion picture art director, with such films as Elizabeth, The Saint, and Chocolat among her flashier credits.
Now, I suppose, she really is in the sky with diamonds.

I just came upon Swanshadow's blog dated 18 June 2005 under 'The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes'. I grew up in Weybridge, Surrey, England before moving to NZ in 1982. I knew Lucy. She hung out with a bunch of us - Frank, Sean, Jeremy, Mark. Now we're all scattered to the winds, 'cept I rang Frank in England today (20 Oct). We talked about Lucy. She was beautiful and one hell of an artist. I remember walking with her along the towpath along the canal one warm summer's day all the way to Ripley, Surrey when we were both about 20. It was a wonderful day. I'm sad beyond words that she's gone, even though we had no contact for years. She really was the girl with kaleidoscope eyes...be happy Lucy, wherever you are (Jerry Beale, Auckland, NZ jerry@radicalalice.com)
